My Life According to Arnold

I’m just going to assume you know about Arnold Schwarzenegger, but just in case, here is his Wikipedia page.  When I first got into weight lifting I would search for motivational videos and listen to these during my workouts.  Most of these videos included quotes from Arnold and rightly so as he is known as one of the best bodybuilders of all time.  He’s dabbled in different careers and has come out on top, but of course, you don’t get to the top without learning a thing or two.  My friends . . .  I give you Arnold’s 6 Rules of Success.

1. Trust Yourself

Is there something that you constantly think about and then quickly push to the back of your mind?  For about 4 years now I have been wanting to do something extreme (extreme according to me).  This something keeps coming back to me on a yearly basis and every year I ignore it, push it back and try my best to forget about it.  Who do you want to be?  What do you want to do?  I want to travel full time with my dogs.  This is what I want, this is what makes me happy.

2. Break the Rules

Here are the rules of life: graduate high school, finish college, accumulate debt, get a job, get married, buy a house and have babies.  I guess I am supposed to be happy sitting in a cube for the next 30 years doing something I don’t like so that I can have enough money to pay for all the things I cannot afford.  Please note that I will not be able to enjoy all of the things I cannot afford because all my time is spent working in a cubicle.  I’m breaking the rules and have decided to lead a “weird” life and be different.  It’s not always about money, job titles or status; there will come a point when you will realize that time is the most valuable resource you have.  A resource which you will never get back.  Stop wasting time, break the rules and live the life you always dreamed about.

3. Don’t be Afraid to Fail

I’m really bad at this one.  My entire life basically revolves around the fear of failure.  I don’t compete because I am afraid to fail, technically speaking it’s not really failure because you learn something along the way.  I start projects and keep all these ideas in my notebook yet I never follow through because I am afraid that I will be judged and someone isn’t going to like certain things.  So what?  There will always be someone who doesn’t approve of your ideas but really the only opinion you should care about is yourself.  So you failed.  What did you learn and how can you use this moving forward?  You see life is a game of chess, certain moves can cost you but then there is that one play that changes everything and turns the game upside down.  Don’t be afraid to take risks, it’s okay to fail.

4. Ignore the Naysayers

There will always be someone who tries to tell you it cannot be done.  Some of these people may be trying to protect you and others just simply believe in the normie lifestyle.  Anything outside of the box is a No No.  Let’s say I want to quit my job and start my own business.  If I were to tell my mom the idea and lay it all out, I can guarantee that the first thing she will say is “why?” followed by “what if?”  See we don’t share the same views on life.  To her job security is a number one concern and me leaving to start my own business would bring a lot of uncertainty.  You have to learn to ignore all of these naysayers and move forward because in the end the only thing that truly matters is what you believe.  Prove them wrong.

5. Work Like Hell

Nothing in life is free.  Ever.  You want a lean body?  Better hit the gym and prep your meals.  You want to win a tournament?  Go hit the mats and increase your training sessions.  You want to play guitar?  Take guitar lessons and keep practicing.  Everything in life you have to work for, period.  There is no way around it and if you want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it done.  If you get lazy and miss that training day, it’s a guarantee that there is someone out there training to become better than you. “You cannot climb the later of success with your hands in your pocket.”  Get out there and get dirty.  Make those dreams come true.

6. Give Something Back

Find a way to give back to your community.  You learn so many great things during your life time, make sure you share them with the those around you.  You never know who’s life you can change.

P.S. Obviously that’s not my picture above.  I found it on google but I have no idea who it belongs to.
