Photoshop = Unrealistic Expectations

Everyone knows that Hollywood is full of Photoshopped beauty queens. All these magazine covers set unrealistic expectations. I used to look at a magazine and wonder why I had pores on my face and wrinkles on my elbows. Why doesn’t my skin glow like some of these celebrities? I wanted that sun-kissed look too. Some of the celebrities below are already beautiful (in my opinion) and I really don’t understand why they go overboard with the Photoshop. Why even use it at all?

Beyonce

Why? Oh wait she has a laugh line. Apparently they are not allowed to laugh in Hollywood.

Eva Mendez

Personally I like the picture on the right best. She’s a natural and can totally rock the no makeup-makeup look.

Katy Perry

Wait . . celebrities have pores too?

Jennifer Lawrence

Ok let’s just go ahead and Photoshop Jennifer’s awesome body and make her arms look abnormally thin while we are it.

Jessica Alba

Apparently my sun-kissed tan is just another Photoshop tool. Also what was wrong with Jessica’s waist before? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Mattel Barbie??

Mattel Barbie??

This normal girl was turned into a human sized barbie doll that walked out of a Mattel factory. She doesn’t even look human anymore.

Cameron Diaz

This picture really makes me mad. It’s obvious Hollywood has something against lines. Again they smoothed out her laugh line and diminished her obliques by like 90%. Really? Do they even know how hard it is to get that v-line? I do because I have been working towards it for over 6 months and have yet to see any results.

All these magazine covers set unrealistic expectations. No we are not all perfect. We all have laugh lines and armpit lines. I have pores. Do you?

I have flaws and they are all over my face and body. There is acne scarring from my teenage years, stitching scar on my forehead, staple scar on my finger from when my sister stapled my finger to the carpet (she claims it was an accident but sometimes I wonder). I have flaws everywhere and just like everyone else I can get a little insecure.

Here is the thing. If you can’t deal with my flaws and you feel the need to judge me based on my outward appearance then basically you are a waste of my time. I am not going to surround myself with the people who want to pinpoint every single thing that’s wrong with me. Learn to love yourself and be comfortable in your own body. And never compare yourself to these magazine covers. Chances are 99.9998% of the time they have been retouched.
